Wedding 2.0
So my sister is getting married in October, and I was telling her how I could save her a ton of money on things like invitations, photographers, a DJ, you know all your typical wedding headaches. As would be expected she promptly shot down my ideas. So I mentioned this to some co-workers who then dubbed my ideas as wedding 2.0.
Idea #1 - Evites
Instead of sending out invitations that will end up costing some decent cash (for paper, envelopes and stamps no less) why not just send out evites (just about everyone has email). Not only is this free, but it saves you the hassle of keeping track of all the returned invitations. The only thing you need to keep track of is a username and password to login to the website. From there you can see who’s coming, who’s not.
Idea #2 - iPod DJ
Instead of dealing with your typical boring DJ who is definitely going to play the Electric Slide and at least one Bob Seger song (yeah yeah, Bob Seger does rule), fill your mp3 player with your favorite music and set it to shuffle. All you need now are some decent speakers.
Idea #3 - Flickr
Why spend the money on a photographer when you can have everyone bring their digital cameras and then post all their photos to Flickr. Tags are a wonderful thing. So long as you tell everyone what your wedding tag is and they give all their photos that tag, you now have a full photo album of your wedding. Plus, Flickr will even make prints that you can pick up at Target.
Idea #4 - YouTube
Why not have those with DV Cameras or even video cameras on their phones record your wedding. When they are done, post them on YouTube and now those who weren’t able to come can experience your special day. Okay, even I’ll admit this is pretty far fetched.
So there you have it, some of my ideas for saving you cash and piece of mind when planning your wedding. You can thank me next time you check your bank statement.
